When I was a child, my grandmother had a whole section of her massive flower garden devoted to her "hen and chicks". About 5 months ago I visited this lady who had this massive plant and she gave me a lot of starters which I planted in this pot. I was amazed when in the center these blossom developed! Then they bloomed! Grandmother's never did that I remember!

I had a bunch of these when I was a child!
If memory serves me correctly I saw them bloom just once. They must be a "once in a long time" kinda flower!
oh, no, I was hoping they would bloom every year! I guess I better enjoy them now! Thanks for the warning.
They are lovely! I have never seen them blooming either. They must be very happy where you have put them....
I just looked up hen and chicks on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hens_and_chicks
They say the plant will die after flowering! Eeep!
But they say the chicks will go on growing and become hens themselves, so maybe its not so bad.
